**********

Dear Saint Andrew Community,

I anticipate that you are all eagerly awaiting news about the opening of Saint Andrew Catholic School and what that will look like for you and your students.

Attached is the school’s COVID-19 Response Plan.  The Utah State Board of Education has established the following descriptors for schools to consider in mitigating the spread of COVID-19. Please note that this plan was carefully crafted in in consultation with many entities, including the Centers for Disease Control, the Utah State Board of Education and the Utah Department of Health.  The response plan is a working document that will be evaluated and updated as new information becomes available.  The impact of COVID-19 changes daily and our community must be flexible as we move forward.

It is the school’s goal to continue the mission of educating the whole child through our Catholic faith. COVID-19 has presented challenges, many which have been difficult for adults and children, alike, to process.  In response to these challenges, students will be given time to adjust to a classroom setting after remote instruction, and more than ever, our teachers will focus on our school’s pillars of Knowledge, Faith and Community.

The school’s plan is based on the same four Utah State color-coded phases that you have most likely already become accustomed to – Red, Orange, Yellow & Green. Current numbers indicate  that Saint Andrew Catholic School will be in the Yellow Phase when school begins on Monday, August 17th.

For everyone’s protection, please keep your child at home if they are sick. Our goal is to keep all members of Saint Andrew Catholic School healthy.  If a member of our community is diagnosed with COVID-19 or has been in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with it, the school will consult with the Salt Lake County Health Department for guidance. Saint Andrew Catholic School will follow the guidance of the Health Department.  If a class, grade or Saint Andrew Catholic School is closed, we will move to distance learning, as outlined in the Orange & Red Phases.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends the following to stop the spread of germs:

  • Practice physical distancing (ideally 6+ feet)
  • When in public, wear a face shield/mask covering your nose and mouth
  • Clean/Disinfect frequently touched objects
  • Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical attention
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer if water is unavailable

Additional information will be sent out in early August. Thank you for choosing Saint Andrew Catholic School.

Sincerely,

Erin Carrabba, Ed. MA- Principal
